LET’S BE ACTIVE IN WINTER!

Now we have proper winter. Along with the cold and snow. Don’t hide under your blankets – let’s go and workout outdoors! It’s awsome!

A winter training may last longer and may be much more effective than a summer workout. When it’s cold outside we tend to feel tired later and we don’t sweat as much. Frosty air makes you feel better and causes energy flows. A winter outdoor training is also good for our immune systems as it makes them tougher and more resistant. Heart and circulatory system work better. Brain gets more oxygen which is good for concentration and cerebration. The lack of sunlight in winter is a cause for depression for some, but outdoor exercise will definitely help you avoid it. Training in low temperatures needs to be reasonable though. It’s harder to walk on snow and ice than on normal ground thus the risk of injuries is higher. A tired athlete is more vulnerable to accidents. You shouldn’t drive yourself to a state of great fatigue. Drinking fluids that also boost your energy is a good idea. There are special drinks for athletes that contain 6-8% of carbohydrates. Many people forget about hydration during water, because they think they’ll sweat less.

Oh and let’s not forget about winter sports! I hope I don’t need to remind you that before going skiing you need to prepare your organisms for everyday physical effort. Also, take into consideration that physical activity in the mountains requires more energy than in a lowland.

You can lose more water during breathing on a moderate height, in dryness and cold. It can lead to bigger fluid loss than if you were training in a lowland. Also, the metabolism of carbohydrates is accelerated when you exercise in the mountains. Thus, you need to remember about energy supplies all day long.

We should also make our diet rich in fruit with antioxidants, vegetables and food that contains iron because working out at a higher altitude than usually may cause oxygen deficiency in our organisms. This however may increase the level of erythropoiesis (red blood cells).
